There were several songs that stand out in my memory that were playing on the radio while I was driving to and from class in college. One of them was "Midnight At The Oasis" by Maria Muldaur which was released in 1974. I really didn't like the song much at that time. I thought the words were corny. It has been years since I've heard the song and then it played over the PA system today while I was at the grocery store. It is funny how songs bring back memories.

Google Chrome Experiments

After downloading the latest Beta version of Google Chrome I started to play with the Google Experiments. I was particularly interested in seeing some of the 3D effects created using HTML 5. It is certainly worth playing with the latest version of Chrome along with going through the over four dozen Google Experiments on The Google Chrome Experiments site.

I placed a link to one of the experiments to my desktop. When I doubled clicked it, it opened my default browser which is IE8. Though IE8 supports HTML 5, the experiment "Lorenz 84: A Strange Attractor" failed to run with the error message shown in the above image. I am not sure if Microsoft IE8 does not support the needed feature or if the experiment simply tests to see which browser is running.

The group at that time consisted of Dan Hamilton (guitar/lead vocal), Joe Frank Correr0 (bass/vocal) and Tommy Reynolds (various instruments/vocals). They had previously played with the T-Bones in the 1960s. This song was originally offered to the "Grass Roots" which turned down the song. At the time many people thought it was the "Grass Roots. The group had a follow up hit with "Falln' In Love."

These pens in general will capture audio along with the text or graphics you create using a small camera built into the tip of the pen. Each vendor has their own unique way of capturing the user’s writing. The processing and storage are all self contained in the pens. Various versions from companies like “Livescribe”, “LeepFrog”, and “IOGear” have been introduced onto the market.

As an input device, the Apple iPhone is many times better than anything the user has experienced in the past. However, it still isn’t perfect – especially for those that have big fingers. And drawing a graphic on the small screen can be difficult. Though there are a couple of artists now demonstrating it can be done. What would be an excellent enhancement to the iPhone would be a smart pen that would capture the users text, graphics, and audio but would transmit it to the iPhone for further processing and for display. 360 Product Review News: During the British Invasion of the US during the 1960s, US born Noel Engel, Gary Leeds, and John Maus formed the Walker Brothers and moved to the UK. There they enjoyed much popularity. Unfortunately, their music had more success in the UK than it did in the US. One of my favorite songs of that era was "The Sun Ain‘t Gonna Shine Anymore." "The Sun Ain‘t Gonna Shine Anymore" and "Make It Easy on Yourself" both made it to #1 in the UK but only made it to #5 and #3 respectfully in the US. Their music previously was not available for download. "The Sun Ain‘t Gonna Shine Anymore" recently became available from Amazon at the provided link Also watch several of the vintage videos of the group performing the song. To me, the group has the sound which is somewhat reminiscent of the Righteous Brothers.

360 Product Review News: The Righteous Brothers are best known for four of their classic hits: "Unchained Melody", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", "Ebb Tide", and "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration." Some younger readers may recall their last recorded hit "Rock and Roll Heaven." Their music made a comeback in 1990 when "Unchained Melody" played in the background of the 'Pottery Scene' in the movie "Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze (as Sam Wheat), Demi Moore (as Molly Jensen), Whoopi Goldberg (as Oda Mae Brown), and Tony Goldwyn (as Carl Bruner). The Righteous Brothers duo consisted of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Bobby Hatfield died in 2003. The name the Righteous Brothers was adopted in 1962. The duo recorded through 1975 and then continued to perform together. They had many other released songs, but their first big hit was "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' which hit #1 in the US and #1 in the UK in 1964. "Unchained Melody" hit #4 in 1965 in the US but probably remains one of their most recognized songs. "Ebb Tide" hit #5 in 1965 as well. Their song "Rock and Roll Heaven" reached #3 in 1974 which was their last big recorded hit. Both Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield released recordings on their own, but none of those recordings became significant hits. Several vintage YouTube videos and links are provided.

The group formed in 1962 and their hit "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" which was released in 1965 brought them to the forefront of rock music. Along with original members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are drummer Charlie Watts and guitarist Ronnie Wood. The YouTube video of their live performance of "Bitch" is worth checking out. It is an excellent video and performance.

360 Product Review News: The Monkees consisted of Davey Jones, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Micky Dolenz. They played themselves on their TV show which air from 1966 to 1968. Were they a "real" band or just a creation for TV? Whatever they were to you, they were able to create a number of pop hits in the mid 1960s. Their hits included: "I'm a Believer", "A Little Bit You", "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "Stepping Stone", and others. Their first hit "Last Train to Clarksville" was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. As many songs of that era, it was a protest against the Vietnam War. For years I thought they were referring to Clarksville, Tennessee which is very close to Fort Campbell military base. However, supposedly Bobby Hart, who co-wrote the song with Tommy Boyce, has indicated this isn't the case. It was always evident to me the meaning of the song from the ending lyrics " I don't know if I'm ever coming home."
The Monkees music for the most part was "high energy" with catchy lyrics. "I'm a Believer" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" seems to have received the most air play over the last 40 years. Paul Revere & The Raiders also recorded "Stepping Stone." I like the Monkees version the best.

The user must manually enter expenses and trip information. The program provides contact information to major hotels and car rentals. It also allows for weather information to be displayed. The program includes a flag game for amusement. Most reviewers have complained the program is much too expensive for the functionality it provides. The program is currently at version 1.3 and costs $29.99. The program has potential but tries to encompass too much with too many screens and it is too burdensome to manually enter in all the data. It provides online weather and flight status via FlightStats but we encountered fatal errors when trying to view the FlightStats pages. However, in 1969 he released "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" which hit #10 in the US and #2 in the UK. If there is ever a music video that will make you laugh it has to be this one. If nothing else it will will make you realize that people really did dress this way 40 years ago. Between the clothes, the background dancers or his chest hair I am not sure which is funnier. Featured is the Lasergrips for the Smith & Wesson Centennial 38 Special. Because of their short barrel, snub nose pistols are very difficult to aim except for very short distances. The Crimson Trace Laser allows the shooter to quickly determine where the barrel is pointing even in low or no light situations. 360 Product Review News: Don McLlean had a number of well known hits including "And I love You So", "Vincent", and "Castles in The Air" - but he will be best remembered for "American Pie." The lyrics have been analyzed by many attempting to guess the true meaning. It is partly inspired by the deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and JP Richsrdon (The Big Bopper) who died in a plane crash in 1959. But even McLean has indicated that the lyrics have some autobiographical meaning. The album was released in 1971 and the hit remained number one on the charts for four weeks in 1972. It is rated as number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1972. Madonna recorded the hit but her version recieved little attention.

CRKT M16-14ZSF Images depicting knife closing issue

360 Product Review News: One of the major concerns we have with this knife is its ability to close without the need for a pry bar. We originally were very excited about reviewing this knife. It looked great and felt great. The only problem was when we flipped it open, we couldn't get it to close. After handing the knife to a couple more people only to have them say "How do you get this knife to close" did we realize this is a serious flaw. Basically what happens is there is a wedge-like spring mechanism which pops up and wedges itself against the end of the knife. This prevents the knife from closing. This is not so different than many other knives. The only problem, this one is extremely difficult to release. The only problem is it wedges so tightly, it is very difficult to get it to release. The enclosed images should help illustrate the problem we have encountered. Hopefully CRKT will resolve this in future designs. We aren’t sure if this is a true design flaw or just poor manufacturing from their Taiwan manufacturer. Read the review and check out the other new images posted in the review.

360 Product Review News: One of the concerns we have with the CRKT M16-14ZSF knife is that its Special Forces Desert Camo name implies it is designed for sandy regions. Because the release spring mechanism is in the shape of a wedge, it is very easy to get the area underneath the wedge filled with sand or other debris. This could prevent the knife from being easily closed. Considering we continuously struggled with issues in trying to simply close this knife, it gives us a negative view as to how well thought out the design was of this knife.
