Coghlans Emergency Tender

Coghlan's Emergency Tender:

In all of my camping experience, I never envisioned the need for a fire starting material other than what was available in nature. It can be tricky at times when in adverse weather. After pouring water on one of these emergency tenders and seeing how easy it lit, it became clear that it would be handy to have these along to get a fire started quickly - especially in an emergency or in very extreme weather.

Specification:

Lighting Instructions:(Paraphrased from Coghlan's packaging)

  1. Take one cube of the tinder and press it firmly from both ends so as to flattten it into a shape of about the size of a quarter.
  2. Pull the flattened tinder into two parts. The goal is to make the fibers long and fuzzy. This will aide in easily lighting of the tender especially in cold or damp environments.
  3. Press the pieces together allowing the exposed fibers to point upward. This will provide a surface which is easier to ignite.
  4. Insure that you have gathered suffiient kindling or other fuel to sustain the fire once it has started.
  5. Use any sort of flint match or flame source to light.
